Financial Assistance for Retreats

2013 Retreats Application Deadline: October 31, 2012

Open Gate Sangha offers a limited number of scholarships to retreats for those who need financial assistance. Scholarships are awarded based on a number of criteria, including availability of scholarship funds, applicant's financial need, and prior scholarships awarded to the applicant. We cannot guarantee a scholarship award to any individual.

Applying for Scholarship

If you choose to apply for a retreat scholarship, do not preregister for the retreat.

In order to apply for a scholarship, you must download a current Retreat Scholarship Application form and send it in by the retreat scholarship application deadline. PLEASE NOTE: If the scholarship application is not viewable on your screen when the link is clicked, please download Adobe Acrobat Reader. Some Windows users may need to right-click on the link and save the file to their desktop.

1. Download the 2013 Retreat Scholarship Application PDF or MS Word version.
2. Mail in your completed application by the postmark deadline: OCTOBER 31, 2012

Scholarship notifications will be mailed within one month after the deadline. If you have missed the scholarship application deadline, please wait and apply for a scholarship for the next cycle of retreats in 2014.

Retreat Scholarship Frequently Asked Questions

1. When will I find out if I received a retreat scholarship?

You will receive a letter in the mail approximately one month after the application deadline.

2. Can I still apply for a retreat scholarship if I have missed the deadline?

No. If you have missed the application deadline, please wait and apply for the next retreat cycle.

3. Am I guaranteed a retreat scholarship?

No. A scholarship committee reviews the applications and makes decisions based on the applications and funds available.

4. If I do not get a scholarship, can I still be on the waiting list?

You can still be on the waiting list if you think you will be able to pay for the full cost of a retreat. Keep in mind that housing at the retreat site is subject to availability; your first choice may not be available.
To put your name on the waiting list after the registration deadline, go to the retreat schedule and click on the retreat you're interested in.

Two Types of Retreat Scholarships

Partial Scholarships

A Partial Scholarship is an award equal to the event fee. Partial Scholarship recipients will be responsible for reserving and paying for their housing with the retreat site. Retreat housing applications and instructions are mailed with the scholarship award letters; please do not contact the retreat site until you have received your letter and instructions.

Full Scholarships

A Full Scholarship is an award equal to the event fee plus the housing fee (up to the cost of the least expensive indoor housing). Information about how to reserve housing is sent with the scholarship award letter; please do not contact the retreat site until you have received your letter and instructions. If Full Scholarship recipients require rooms of greater cost than a dorm/quad, they are responsible for paying the difference in cost.
